Day 1 - Ryokō Shimas

May 7th, 2008

Our trip started at 5:30am, Tuesday the 6th of May 2008. 2 planes, 2 trains and a cab ride, 16.5 hours later, we finally made it to our accommodation in Osaka. The passengers on our flight were mostly Japanese returning home from holidaying, we did however meet some Aussies, Peter and Libby who were experiencing Japan for their first time too . They had some how ended up behind us on both flights, Bris to Sydney and then on to Osaka. We checked into our hotel, the Weekly Mansions, Otema at about 11:30ish (local time). Far from being a mansion, however, it is nice and comfy with our own bathroom and toilet. We crashed (on our very hard beds), and that was the end of day 1.

P.S The cab driver was so blind he had 2 sets of glasses, and it took us forever to get to the hotel. He called the place twice, even stopping to use a telephone box. What would have cost us around 13 bucks, ended up costing about 23. Our first language interaction, I quickly learnt the word “wakarimasen” (I don’t understand)

Image 9… stupid question, but is that your room? It’s the most un-hotel hotel room I’ve ever seen! It looks like a house. Spacious though, which must be a good thing.

I see you are having a great time, enjoy.
